Title: I have nightmares about my dad who died 4 years ago.
Post by: tulip15 on December 10, 2016, 05:22:54 PM
Hi, I'm 25 and my dad died 4 years ago. We were close and it was traumatic for me, especially as I was there when he had the heart attack randomly in front of me one saturday afternoon.

Recently out of the blue I have had these dreams, he will show up in the dream but never in a nice way like nice memories. It's always something where he is in distress, for example the last dream was about me living away from home for a year or so and visiting my parents. In my dream he is always alive and everything is normal, but when I met him he showed up an alcoholic, his clothes were torn and dirty, he was depressed and angry. It was awful.

Then I woke up and felt sick all day. In other dreams it has been about him struggling with money, him stealing etc.

My dad was a good man, he never stole and he never was an alcoholic or angry. So why am I having these dreams about him in such a situation?

Anyone had anything similar?

Hi tulip. Welcome to the forum.

I've not had a single dream about my wife, good or bad, and often wish I could.

My thoughts are that It could be that something has happened in your life recently that has triggered these nightmares? Maybe something you are stressed about. Or perhaps it is a delayed reaction to the trauma you experienced when your father died. Either way it might be worth having a word with your GP.

It's hard thing to cope with these dreams, dreams of my hubby always leave me feeling off it the following day, they're not happy ones. I honestly think it is just the brain's way of sorting everything out to put away into the correct places in the brain. Your body and brain have been dealt such a blow after a bereavement, it must go into shock. :hearts:
